CLARK MAGRUDER lives in La Luz, New Mexico. His home (a former weaving school), is filled with art works and artists' books that reflect the preponderance of his interests. He draws in pen and ink, sculpts in a variety of materials, primarily wood; paints in watercolors even though he is partially color blind, and photographs underwater scenes (using scuba gear), and other subjects while breathing naturally! A few examples of his work in these media may be found on these pages. In addition, examples of his wood sculpture (Paiges Dragon), may be found in Dona Meilach's book, Woodworking, The New Wave, and seen on the web (If I Ever Did under Ralph Magruder) in the Del Mar Library Sculpture Gallery. Clark has lived in Saudi Arabia, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Samoa, Mexico and Saint Croix, the U.S. Virgin Islands. He has traveled in Europe, the near East, the Caribbean, Central America and the Pacific. He has published and illustrated three books of his own under the imprimatur of Black Stones Press, and he has done illustrations for other authors as well. His published books are: The Shell Master, Dhahran Fables, and The Lost Animals of Noah's Ark. The last is a bilingual book with translations provided by Dr. Francisco Lopez. Clark is now working on a book about his own pen and ink drawings with a focus on illustrations of biblical and western themes. Clark has an extensive teaching record. He began teaching at Irvin High School in El paso, eventually moving on to Basset Junior High, Austin High School, Texas A & I University (now Texas A & M at Kingsville), with intermediate stints at Ohio State University and The Rhode Island School of Design. Dr. Magruder was trained, while he was a Full Professor, in teaching methods modeled on the Deming philosophy of teamwork, and gave teaching seminars to his fellow academicians. He holds the following degrees: B.B.A., B.A., M.F.A., and Ph.D. He was selected for membership in Phi Kappa Phi, a national honors society. Clark's instructors in his various art fields include: Wiltz Harrison, Clarke Garnsey, Ben Goo, Robert Tauber (of the Logan Elm Press), Nancy MacGregor, and Ken Marantz. He owes them all a debt of gratitude. Clark hopes that his future will include a few more students, a few more books, some more travel, and continued opportunities to take photographs, both above and below the waterline.
